We stock quite a large selection of fabrics purchased with Sport Shirts in mind. Naturally, many
clients order these as dress shirts...or order 'dress' shirt fabrics as sport shirts.
One particular client who wears only white shirts with Spread collar, French Cuffs, and no pocket Recently ordered three powder blue and three ecru in exactly the same style. Kidding, I inquired as to his
reason for such a radical departure. His reply? He needed Sport Shirts for an upcoming cruise!
Many have over the years developed their unique sport style within the master pattern we keep
here for each client. Personally, I consider a basic sport shirt to have Barrel Cuffs, two Pleated
Button Pockets, and hopefully a bit of color....but that's me. Recently I've seen gentlemen
wearing Tartan plaids to the office and others sporting pleated tuxedo shirts with blue jeans! The
concept of 'Sport' most certainly remains one which lies in the eye of the beholder.Return to the CustomShirt1.com Home Page
Many choose to use their regular Dress Shirt collar on Sport Shirts as well. Other options
include
Barrel Cuffs are usual here and can be had with One, Two, or Three buttons. These are offered in
many shapes such as Square, Round, Quarter-Round, Pentagonal, and Hexagonal. Adjustable
Point and Tab Cuffs are quite popular as are angled 'Barber Pole' stripings.
Sport Centers made with large inside facings cause a soft rolling effect of the center front into the collar
when the top button is left undone. The Italian Sport Center is quite spectacular in combination
with the Italian Collar above. Either Italian or Sport Centers fare equally well when worn with an
Ascot, Jabot, or similar type of stylish neckwear.
Other ideas include the Cossack....as in the movie Dr. Zhivago, the Fireman's front.....a bibbed
affair which gives a somewhat double-breasted impression, and the always popular Three-Button
Pullover.
Basic pocket ingredients include:Plain or Pleated center; with or without Flap; Flap
with or without Button(s); and Set-in or Bezun style. The Bellows Pocket, which has a back
piece that expands when filled, is usually seen as the lower pocket on a Safari Shirt. Pocket
shapes are equally prolific...Round, Square, Vee, Slanted, Concave, Abstract, and Unsymmetrical
to name but a few. On a basis of function, pockets can be open-top, open-side, two pockets-in-
one, and that old favorite, the Hidden Money Pocket on which we often use a zipper or Velcro
type closure.
Shoulders may be made normally or oversized. All two piece Sport Yokes are cut with Vee
stripes in the center back. Yokes, such as in our Western styling, can have single or multiple
points and curves front and rear. Yokes can be accented with matching sleeve caps connecting the rear and front pieces. Stripes can run ... literally ... every which way, including loose! They can be made from contrasting colors, or even different fabrics. As accompaniment varied Epaulets are available. Finally, a shirt can even be made with no yoke at all ... but it won't fit quite as well.
